Page 2 of 16 Mebyon Kernow - The Party for Cornwall What is Mebyon Kernow? Cornwall has its own political party; Mebyon Kernow - The Party for Cornwall. MK fulfils an important role in the political life of Cornwall with a broad agenda that combines pragmatism with innovation. Who’s who in Mebyon Kernow? Mebyon Kernow party leader Cllr Dick Cole heads a National Executive. Six constituency departments hold regular meetings and a variety of functions for members and the wider public. The local elections in May this year resulted in more MK councillors elected than ever before, with 10,000 people voting for MK candidates. Party membership figures continue to reflect this solid growth of interest in the party. When, why, how? Mebyon Kernow’s policies - a product of an integrated understanding of Cornwall’s economic realities, its fragile environment and of the need to campaign for all the people of Cornwall - would facilitate the decoupling of the institutional merger with parts of South West England. MK would establish a number of Cornish based institutions: a legislative Cornish Assembly, a Cornish Development Agency, a Cornish Training and Skills Council, a Cornish Housing Board, a Cornish National School Curriculum, an independent Cornish University and a Cornish Small Business Service. Mebyon Kernow believes in the promotion of the Cornish identity as a means of delivering greater democracy to the people of Cornwall and to strengthen the Cornish economy.
