The Bards of Gorsedd Kernow

The Bards of Gorseth Kernow assembled in Penzance for their annual public display of allegiance to the Cornish cause.

This was the first time Penzance hosted the Gorseth gathering. The town centre came to a stop as hundreds of people lined the streets to watch the procession of Bards – led by Merv Davey’s pipes and the Golowan Band. Representatives from the Welsh and Breton Gorseth also joined the Cornish.

There were songs, prayers, the commemoration of bards who died during the year, the initiation of new bards and a final Cry of Peace before the closing.

There were a plethora of banners visible, each one proudly showing the names of where the participants came from, as well as the St Piran’s flag.

Next year, the Gorsedd will hold its annual assembly in Looe.
