Page 4 of 7 Lobster The crew of Newlyn trawler Brittania gained a new member recently, when a two feet long, nine-and-a-quarter pound lobster was hauled onto the deck. Fishermen accidentally caught the aptly named Poseidon, 200 miles south west of Newlyn, as they fished for bass on a wreck. ![]() The lobster is closely related to the common crawfish, pink in colour with small spines, but is usually found off the west coast of Africa and in the Mediterranean, rather than Cornish waters. Poseidon was one of three lobsters caught that day, but was saved from the pot due to his remarkable size. He now resides in Newquay’s Blue Reef Aquarium, where experts are consulting record books to see if he might be the biggest ever landed. |
