Page 10 of 24 Game of the season pulls in the numbers The first Cornish rugby game of the season proved to be one of the most exciting as the Cornish All Blacks, celebrating their first match in National League One, took on the Cornish Pirates from Penzance. A capacity crowd of 2,995 packed the All Blacks home at Polson, Launceston, for the epic showdown. ![]() The Cornish All Blacks pull away from the Cornish Pirates at the first game of the season for both teams. The Cornish Pirates won the fiercely contested match 19-12. An unlucky All Blacks retreated to the clubhouse 19 nil down at half time and managed to pull back the game to a more respectable 12-19 at full time. It was a great second half performance by the All Blacks who showed they are more than capable of coping at this level of the game, if it hadn’t been for a few missed kicks the game would have been completely different. However, all was not so good for Redruth, also in a new league after promotion last season. Their match against Cambridge was abandoned at half time after players found thieves had stolen money and other valuables, including wedding rings, from lockers. The discovery of the theft led Redruth, who were the visiting team, to abandon the game with officials saying feelings were ‘running high’. |
