Page 13 of 24 The Apprentice winner? In May we reported on the progress of Naomi Lay who was starring in the BBC programme The Apprentice. Naomi was competing alongside 15 of the country’s most talented business people for a £100,000-a-year job with entrepreneur Sir Alan Sugar. Naomi went into episode 10 (of the 12 episode series) as one of the favourites to win. Yet it was not to be; to the shock of the nation, Sir Alan turned to Naomi and delivered his famous line: “You’re Fired.” From the family home at Wendron, father Stephen Lay said: “Surprisingly we see this as the best possible outcome! Naomi’s firing was generally accepted as a travesty and the positive media coverage has been exceptional, far better than the eventual winner received.” Naomi said “The experience has been amazing and I am totally humbled by the response from Cornwall; I am regularly recognised and thanked for ‘doing Cornwall proud’.” Naomi was educated at Wendron, Trewirgie and Truro Schools before moving to London to study Modern European Languages. She regularly returns to Cornwall and is increasingly helping to promote good causes in Cornwall. |
