Mazey Day PDF Print E-mail

Mazey Day in Penzance is the key day atthe centre of the recently revived Golowan festival. Golowan is the Feast of St John, a revived version of the old Corpus Christi Fair held in the week following Trinity Sunday. The Saturday is Mazey Day, when a huge parade of fabricated creatures and costumes parades through the town in the manner of the Mardi Gras. Different organisations and groups take months preparing dragons and birds, wheeled floats and giant robots to parade through the streets. The traditional accompaniments of music, food, drink and fun are to be found in abundance.

Photograph shows final preparations for one of the brightly coloured floats that take to the streets on Mazey Day in Penzance.
