Page 1 of 2 With dedication and talent oozing from some of the Duchy’s young stars Cornwall looks set to stamp its mark in national equestrian sports this season. Competing at any level requires commitment, dedication and talent. Nineteen-year-old Tanya Read is holding down numerous jobs as well as producing a small string of horses and undoubtedly has the will to succeed. Having completed A levels in 2008, she has secured sponsorship from the Flaming Wok in Porthtowan and internet site Horsequestrian. ![]() Tanya Read at last year's Pony Club National Tetrathlon Championships. While her peers are travelling the world and starting university courses, Tanya sets her sights on the competition season ahead. She said: “I am not sure what the future holds but my aim is to better lasts years 8th place at the Pony Club National Tetrathlon Championships. I also want to produce a youngster to event in the future. My top horse Haarlem Romance was born with five legs so it is nothing short of a miracle that he has completed three seasons of affiliated eventing and senior level tetrathlon.” ![]() Tim Wilkinson in competition at Pontispool. The 11-year-old was born with an extra limb on his offside fore. It was removed two days later and he had further operations as a yearling and two-year-old. With an excited smile she describes a young sport horse she hope to buy in the future and adds; “Haarlem is amazing at the cross country phase but can be unreliable show-jumping which lets us down at big events. This year I am going to focus on tetrathlon to bring out his strengths and minimise strain on his legs.” |
